The last might not have been definitely heard about the recent
concluded 2015 general election, especially in Lagos State, the Centre of
Excellence. It is an established fact that the elections have come and gone; it
is also an undisputable truth that the elections produced a set of public
office holders who will direct government affairs for the next four years. But
this did not happen without its attendant controversies and one of such
controversies is the alleged N10 million “thank you” package from Lagos State
Governor, Babatunde Fashola to Lagos Market Board led by Sade Tinubu-Ojo, the
daughter of APC National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to a reliable source governor Fashola invited the Lagos
Market Board and market men and women leaders in all 57 Local Government and
Local Council Development Areas in Lagos state to his Marina House recently;
the meeting which took place a day before the April 11th
governorship election was said to have been hosted by governor Fashola to thank
the market leaders for their support and steadfast with his government.
The outgoing governor reportedly thank the market leaders and
informed them that when he wanted to seek governorship seat ,he called and
notified them, sought their support which they willingly gave him and he is
about to leave office and he deemed it fit to call them again and thank them
for their support. However, after all said and done, governor Fashola was said
to have gave out a sum of N10million to the market leaders through Sade as a thank
you gift to them. As expected, Sade without the majority of the market leaders
knowledge left with the money and her entourage to Sunday Adigun street, Alausa
Ikeja Lagos where the market leaders regularly hold meeting week in, week out,
though she expected them to join her at Sunday Adigun for their share of the
Largesse. But some market leaders led by Ahlaji Wasiu, the Babaloja General of
Lagos protested to governor Fashola that the money ought to have been shared
instantly before they leave Marina and should not have been taken to Sunday
Adigun. At this junction, governor Fashola was said to have informed them that
although, Sade might be their daughter, but God has bestowed her with
leadership position, they should respect her view and go and meet her at Sunday
Adigun for their own share of the money. But they bluntly refused, they
insisted that governor Fashola should give them their own money separately. The
governor heeded to their demand and was said to have given them another
N3million and they share it. Leaders of each market were said to have left
Marina with N50thousand. It was reliably gathered that some of those who
collected out of the N3million also went to Sunday Adigun to have a share out
of the money with Sade.
