The Many Loses Of Lagos Deputy Governor

This is surely not the best of times for the deputy governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire. For some inexplicable reasons, the amiable woman of substance has suffered a series of losses in the last few months.

Those close to her revealed that the ex-Lagos State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation herself could not phantom what could have befallen her. The myriad of losses started when she lost her mother to the cold hands of death. The final funeral for the late woman held on November 21. But exactly one month after, her father, Alhaji Prince Jimoh Kareem-Laka Orelope, a prominent politician and community leader, also passed on at the ripe age of 101.

Prior to these tragedies, Orelope-Adefulire, whose tenure as deputy governor will soon wind up, had planned to remain relevant in the political circle; so, she had attempted to represent her constituency, Lagos West Senatorial District, under the All Progressives Congress, APC. With her firm faith in her godfather, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, she had hoped to win her party’s primary election without tears. Perhaps, she had underestimated her opponents.

Society happenings gathered that shortly before the election, some delegates had lampooned her, adding that even her godfather’s popularity would not save her. Faced with a possible rejection, she was left only with Hobson choice: to step down. As a result, the primary was won by Solomon Adeola, a member of the Lower Chamber and Chairman, Committee on Accounts and Appropriation.
A source informed Society Happenings that delegates were not in support of her ambition on the grounds that she lacks certain qualities needed to hold such a sensitive elective office.  So, they maintained that only a firebrand who is articulate, eloquent, exposed and well prepared for the onerous tasks at the apex level of legislation is fit for the post.
